Searching for Easements

The “text search” feature can be used to find easements that contain specific words or phrases. This tool is available in the upper left hand corner of each page. A portal user can type any term they are interested in, and the system will generate a search results page listing the easements that meet the search criteria, along with the ability to view these same easements on a map.

The “advanced search” feature can be used to create a customized search for easements based upon specific rules and conditions. This tool is accessible on the left hand side of each page. Once accessed, portal users can search by any of the data attributes the easement database captures, ranging from easement holder name to easement purpose, and can also tie geospatial parameters to the search, such as county, watershed (4th field), or ecoregion. Once a search is defined, the system will generate a search results page listing the easements that meet the search criteria, along with the ability to view these same easements on a map.

“Quick searches” are pre-defined searches based upon high level search criteria. These searches provide quick summaries of broader easement attributes from only one click away. Some quick searches are highlighted directly on the homepage, but more can be accessed on the left hand side navigation tools available on each page. Examples might include easements held by federal agencies with an environmental purpose or all easements held by state government. Once a portal user chooses a quick search, the system will generate a search results page listing the easements that meet the search criteria, along with the ability to view these same easements on a map.
